"NICK TOOK OVER REDDAM HOUSE"
At the end of November, 2003, Lital and some of her friends in Year 4 won a  competition which resulted in the entire Nickelodeon crew taking over our school for the day.  Thank you to Nickelodeon for providing us with so much fun and for making the day a 'never to be forgotten' experience.

In November 2003, Olivia, Danielle, Dani, Carla, Nicky, Bill, Rebecca and I entered the "Nick Take Over My School" competition sponsored by Nickelodeon.  We designed and painted a big banner which I submitted through the Internet.  When my mum saw that another school had won, I was very disappointed, but a few days later the producer of the show called me at home to say that Reddam House had won the competition!  He said that in 3 days, Nick would take over our school.  It turned out that the school that had won didn't have approval of their principal so they didn't win the prize.  We were very happy that Mr Balios and Mrs Bailey agreed that Nick could take over our school and they sent out permission notes to all the students.

Finally the big day had come and the Nick crew arrived to set up early.  I came just in time to see that they were inflating a gigantic Nickelodeon rocket ship balloon in front of the school.  Soon after that Dave Lawson, the host of the show, appeared.  When the bell rang, year 4 were invited to the teachers lounge to each receive a Nickelodeon shirt, cap and goodie bag.  As the rest of year 4 went up to the classroom, Dave asked Dani and I to help him take over Mr Balios' office.  Mr Balios was a good sport when Dave sprayed 'fart spray' to make him leave his office quickly as we looked through his desk drawers and found teddy bears, stickers and even GUM which is forbidden at Reddam House.

During recess, when we were with the camera crew and Dave, lots of students were being filmed doing "Nick Tricks" and saying "Brag Bags" One of my favourites was when Danielle and Monique rolled their tummies for the camera and when Rachel was breakdancing!  After recess, the students got to test the teachers and it was a close co test between Mr Barriere and Mr Kemp.  UNfortunately Mr Kemp lost and got blue toilet water dumped over his head by Mr Barriere - DISGUSTING!!!!!

There was a competition between the 3 houses.  There was one person from grades 4, 5 and 6 in each team and each team had to pack a lunch with baked beans, mushy peas, cream pies and poppers.  The lunches were tossed back to a team member and it had to be caught in a basket.  It wasn't as easy as it looked but in the end Bondi had won and we got to compete against the teachers.

The final competition included JC and Sarah doing cartwheels and putting together a puzzle that was actually a note passed in class which read "Dave Lawson is a HOTTIE!"  The Mr Kemp and I had to take a flag and write 3 sentences on a whiteboard saying "I will not pass notes in class".  Mr Bailey and Ryan had to skip to a rubbish bin filled with baked beans and peas left over from lunch and had to dig out a flag.  Then, for the ending, they had to slide in water for their final score.  It was close but Bondi won and we got to slime the teachers.

It was the best part of the whole day when we dumped enormous buckets of green slime over their heads and because I had emailed in the entry, Dave Lawson dumped a whole bucket of BLUE slime over my head!  The day Nick took over our school was a day that many students will remember forever!

Lital - Year 5

At 10 am , the people behind Nickelodeon set up their props including a large orange balloon printed with the name of this kid's channel.  The hosts of the show were ready to tell the exciting news that Lital had won the competition to have Nickelodeon take over Reddam House.

And take over the school they did, along with us kids.  We only had to do 20 minutes of French that day, then it was on.  We moved from classroom to classroom then into the staff room where we collected caps, T-shirts and pots of luscious, sticky, disgusting glue.  Then we raced outside to the playground where we took part in lots of activities including sandwich making, drenching the teachers in gunk and generally celebrating Lital's contest win.

My friend Matthew and I loved sliming the teachers best and also picking up our supplies from the staffroom.  We were covered in gunk when it was all over and have never had such an enjoyable day at school.  Unfortunately the next day it was back to normal lessons and we really want Nickelodeon to come back soon.
