WHAT IS DIABETES?

Diabetes is when you don't have enough insulin in your blood.  That means that your body isn't getting enough or too much sugar (glucose) to make everything work properly.  This is because the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin.

WHAT CAUSES DIABETES?

  • overweight
  • family history
  • high cholesterol
  • high blood pressure

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF DIABETES?

If you don't get enough sugar to the blood vessels and nerves it can damage them.  For example :

EYESIGHT - you can go blind.
FEET - you can get gangrene and have to have your feet cut off.
KIDNEYS - they can stop working and your blood won't be cleaned and you will die.
HEART AND BLOOD FLOW- may be stopped.
INFECTIONS - you can get them more easily.

CAN IT BE CURED?

NO!

BUT IT CAN BE CONTROLLED BY USING THREE THINGS TOGETHER

Diet-not too much or too little sugar.

Exercise-a lot - but don't overdo it!

Medicines- take what the doctor says!

CONCLUSION

Diabetes is a disease that can kill you.

You can prevent it by keeping a
balanced diet and exercising and
not eating too much or too little sugar.

Sadly, my Grandpa has diabetes,
but because he is careful to exercise,
not to have too much or too little
sugar and take medicines, it is not fatal.
